Great Texts – Andrew Hennlich

As part of its Great Texts / Big Questions series, GIPCA presents ‘Negotiating the absurd: migration and citizenship in The Nose’ by Dr Andrew Hennlich. Hennlich will present this lecture as a follow up to the presentation at GIPCA by renowned artist William Kentridge. Kentridge’s direction of ‘The Nose’ used anamorphic sculptures, becoming a companion to the absurd, to examine metaphors of diaspora and citizenship.

Performance – Nicola Elliot’s ‘Run!’

GIPCA presents ‘Run!’ choreographed by Nicola Elliott, winner of the 2014 Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Dance. With a simmering undercurrent of feminist politics, meticulous performance crafting and bold visual statements, ‘Run!’ subverts the notion of women as (only) soft and fragile and, in both a concrete and abstract way, engages the complex relationship between the female performer and the space and place of the stage.
